38 municipalities and communities together with Chemnitz form the cultural region that will be European Capital of Culture in 2025. By 2025 and beyond, the PURPLE PATH, a large sculpture, art and maker trail and flagship of the European Capital of Culture, will be created in the region.

In the coming weeks and months numerous events will take place along the Purple Path that show: the PURPLE PATH is open! We invite you to join us and together with us examine our traditions and history and reinterpret them.

The art and sculpture trail PURPLE PATH, one of the flagship projects of Chemnitz 2025 GmbH, makes the multifaceted heritage of the 38 partner municipalities that share the title European Capital of Culture with Chemnitz visible.
Art works have already been permanently installed and inaugurated in seven municipalities to date. The next inaugurations are expected to take place from spring 2024. At the same time, however, further artistic projects are already being developed in connection with the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail and events are already inviting visitors to the region in the autumn and winter months.

The PURPLE PATH creates a connection, as the art trail consisting of sculptures and interventions by international and local artists connects cities and municipalities and unfolds a European history of mining and industrialisation. Artists from well over 40 nations have already been invited.

We also want to place our understanding of peaceful coexistence and the peaceful treatment of nature at the centre of everything we do. Because: the PURPLE PATH stands for togetherness in good neighbourliness, cultural renewal out of respect for tradition, ecological and social sustainability. And it stands for a tolerant culture that warmly welcomes Saxony and Germany, Europe and the world.
