New Castle festival Meissen

At a glance

Cultural enjoyment in a unique atmosphere!

As early as 1925, music, drama and dance thrilled audiences in the courtyard of Albrechtsburg Castle. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary, the festival was revived in 2015 after a long break and has continued its success story ever since.

With a diverse programme, the "New Meissen Castle Festival" will take place from 2 to 11 June 2023 at Albrechtsburg Castle and Meissen Cathedral. On a total of ten days of events, the audience can expect drama, dance and musical theatre productions, readings and concerts in the historical ambience. The festival programme includes the reading "Die Spur der Hebamme" by Sabine Ebert, the premiere of Benjamin Britten's opera "Curlew River" and Charles Gounod's "Cäcilienmesse", which can be heard in a concert by the Elbland Philharmonie Sachsen together with soloists on 11 June in Meissen Cathedral. The musical director is cathedral cantor Thorsten Göbel.

Amazing culture in front of a unique backdrop - in the castle courtyard and the Great Court Room of Albrechtsburg Meissen and Meissen Cathedral.
