At the 4th International Fairytale Film Festival fabulix®, visitors can once again look forward to an impressive selection of national and international productions - from timeless classics to festival and German premieres. There are currently 37 different films to choose from at over 80 screenings for all fairytale fans.
The city can also look forward to the visit of numerous celebrities, filmmakers, actors, actresses and directors who will immerse themselves in the fairytale festival events together with the audience.
Since its premiere in 2017, more than 60,000 visitors from near and far have flocked to the fairytale film city during the three festival editions. Fabulix® has firmly established itself in the European festival landscape. The impressive media response has taken the fairytale film festival far beyond regional and national borders.
In 2025, Annaberg-Buchholz will once again be the stage for magical encounters: When queens and goblins, fairy tale heroes and movie lovers, fairies and families gather in imaginative costumes, fabulix® will once again become a fairy-tale work of art - right in the heart of the Ore Mountains.
A musical highlight of the festival is the grand gala concert "Magic of a Night" on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 19:00. Under the sparkling summer night sky, the Annaberg market square will be transformed into an "enchanted castle" with a special glow. The most beautiful melodies from the world of fairytale films and productions will be played, interpreted by the Erzgebirgische Philharmonie Aue under the direction of the young conductor Maximilian Haberstock.
The big festival kick-off on Wednesday, August 20, promises to be a real highlight: from 5:30 pm, stars, filmmakers and guests of honor will walk the red carpet, including Pavel Trávníček. Together with the audience and prominent guests, the German premiere of the new fairytale film "Zlatovláska" (Princess Golden Hair) will be celebrated.
The Czech remake is based on a classic by Karel Jaromír Erben and tells the story of an adventurous journey full of magic, animal helpers and - of course - a princess with golden hair. Directed by Jan Těšitel - a full-length fairytale promise of a special kind! A fairytale prelude that is entirely in keeping with the festival motto "Of foreign lands, kingdoms and magical worlds".
Another highlight for cinema fans: at selected screenings, actors, directors and filmmakers will be live on location. After the screenings, they will be available for personal discussions, photos and autographs - an experience that creates memories and brings film history to life.
From August 20 to September 21, 2025, the Manufaktur der Träume in Annaberg-Buchholz will be transformed into a walk-in film costume fairytale. Under the title "fabulix® - Costume Exhibition", the exhibition accompanying the International Fairy Tale Film Festival opens its doors to all those who want to experience the magic of the silver screen up close.
In a unique cooperation with the renowned Barrandov Studios Prague - one of the most traditional film studios in Europe - and the costume collection of Czech state television, original costumes from well-known fairytale film classics and current productions will be presented for the first time in the Ore Mountains. The fabulix® costume exhibition is accessible during the regular opening hours of the Manufactory of Dreams.
When the gates of the "Enchanted Castle" open for the last time on Sunday, August 24, 2025, visitors can look forward to a very special finale of the 4th fabulix® International Fairytale Film Festival: first, the audience's favorite film will be announced and awarded and then the sand artists of the Sandtheater Dresden will present "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp". The audience will be enchanted by a breathtaking live show in which sand painting, music and fairytale storytelling combine to create an emotional work of art.
