The Begehungen art festival will take place from July 18 to August 17, 2025 on the site of the decommissioned lignite-fired power plant Nord in Chemnitz. The Begehungen 2025 art festival is part of the official program of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. Under the title EVERYTHING IS INTERACTION, the festival aims to make the complexity of the issues of resource consumption, species loss and climate crisis visible.

The exhibition brings together 30 international artistic perspectives on social, ecological and economic consequences of environmental destruction, on questions of justice and power as well as related social discourses. The festival is intended to be an inspiring place for encounters, exchange and creative impulses. The exhibition will include expansive installations, photographs, drawings, sculptures as well as video and sound artworks. A good quarter of the artworks will be site-specific and created especially for the festival, including works created with the participation of employees and residents of Heizkraftwerk Nord.

The exhibition will be complemented by a festival program with concerts, readings, lectures and performances. The works in the exhibition and site-specific conditions will become starting points for in-depth discussions of the content.

The venue is located at Dammweg 10, 09114 Chemnitz.
