NEW YORK 9/11 – War in Times of Peace

At a glance

NEW YORK 9/11 – War in Times of Peace“ is the fourth anti-war project by Yadegar Asisi.

This highly topical artwork recalls the attacks of September 11, with their global and far-reaching effects, and allows a complex view of the events that followed. The journey through the exhibition takes you chronologically through the past 20 years to September 11, 2001. Five installations first visualize the less visible consequences of the Day of Destiny: the suffering caused in the war-torn countries of the Middle East, the immense consequences of the war on terror, the fate of refugees and contemporary witnesses, the nameless victims of torture, fighting and persecution as a direct consequence of 9/11. At the end of the chronology, Panorama NEW YORK 9/11 shows the scenery at the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001, at 8:41 a. m. , five minutes before the attacks. With the knowledge of the following tragedies, this starting point in the midst of the morning hustle and bustle of multicultural Manhattan becomes a seemingly utopian snapshot.
