On 09 May 2024, the Markkleeberg Canoe Park will kick off this year's season. From this date, recreational athletes can once again experience whitewater rafting, DUO rafting, hydrospeed, wave surfing and bodyboarding as well as whitewater kayaking at the facility on Lake Markkleeberg. The various offers can be booked online from the beginning of January 2024.
The Markkleeberg Canoe Park is one of the most modern whitewater facilities in the world and technically comparable to the Olympic courses in Sydney, London and Tokyo. It offers ideal conditions for training as well as national and international competitions in canoe slalom. The canoe park is a tourist highlight in Leipzig's Neuseenland region. In recent seasons, up to 25,000 active guests and 450,000 visitors have been welcomed to the canoe park.
The national competition highlight in 2024 will be the final two qualifying races for the Olympic Games. At the Markkleeberg Canoe Park on 27 and 28 April 2024, the German canoe slalom aces will decide who gets to travel to Paris in the summer. Thrilling races and decisions down to tenths of a second are guaranteed. The young canoeists will also be competing for the highly coveted places in the junior national team, which entitle them to take part in the Junior World and European Championships.
A few days before the start of the recreational sports season, the Canoe Park will once again become the Mecca of canoeing: On 4 and 5 May 2024, the XXL Paddling Festival traditionally offers a varied programme for interested beginners and experienced canoeists. Numerous workshops, various trial offers, test drives with test boats, guided canoe tours and technical courses are planned for the tenth edition of the German Canoe Association (DKV) event. This "small anniversary" will be celebrated with an attractive programme and various activities to take part in. Friends of water sports will find an extensive range of canoeing equipment from well-known manufacturers and dealers at the Plaza. From stand-up boards, touring boats and whitewater kayaks to spray skirts and paddle jackets, the range on offer is extensive. And best of all, testing and trying out is expressly encouraged.
