Plauen as a top city Altstadtzauber & Kulturgenuss
The charming 900-year-old town on the White Elster, surrounded by the lush greenery of the Vogtland hills, impresses with its historic old town, museums, cultural highlights and magnificent Art Nouveau buildings.
Plauen is best known for Plauen lace, which had its heyday at the beginning of the 20th century and still adorns fashion collections, accessories and home textiles today. You can experience at first hand how traditional work was once carried out on large embroidery machines in the faithfully reproduced Plauener Spitze show embroidery museum factory. Here, delicate threads grow millimetre by millimetre into works of art made of tulle and lace to the rhythm of the embroidery machines.
In the idyllic Elsteraue, the most dreamy corner of the old town, you will find the medieval weavers' houses and their enchanted gardens on the Mühlgraben. Felting, sewing, pottery and wood-turning are carried out in the craftsmen's yards and workshops.
Not far from the creative quarter is the reeves' cultural trail. Here you can follow in the footsteps of the former servants of the German Emperor, who founded the Vogtland region over 900 years ago. The former castle offers a beautiful view of the old town ensemble.
The Vogtland Museum and the neighboring Erich Ohser House invite you to enjoy a variety of museum visits. Who doesn't know the funny picture stories of the moustachioed father with his mischievous son.
Plan a stop at one of the cozy old town restaurants and try the Vogtland cuisine. Plauen is delicious!
As a family-friendly city, Plauen also offers a wonderful opportunity to spend a varied and natural city vacation in the heart of the Vogtland
