The Zschopau Valley Bike Trail is considered the most famous bike trail in the Ore Mountains. It winds its way for 137 km through the romantic Zschopau Valley—a valley with diverse and varied features: steep rocky gorges, green floodplains, and dense forests; picturesque villages; majestic castles and palaces; historic bridges; unique industrial monuments; evidence of mining, and the unique contemporary art of the Purple Path Art & Sculpture Trail (an exhibition in public spaces—a legacy of Chemnitz’s 2025 European Capital of Culture year).

The Zschopau Valley Bike Trail runs from the source of the Zschopau River on the Fichtelberg (the spa town of Oberwiesenthal), Saxony’s highest mountain, along the “Pearl of All Saxon Rivers” to where it flows into the Freiberger Mulde. There, it seamlessly merges into the Mulde Cycle Route.

Along the route from Oberwiesenthal through Wolkenstein and the town of Zschopau to the vicinity of Döbeln, you’ll find a wide variety of sights, stunning views, and the charm of the local countryside.
