Hohnstein: Hockstein viewpoint and Wolf Gorge

The starting point of the hike is the bus stop Zeschnig Hocksteinschänke. From there, the path – following the Malerweg – passes the Hocksteinschänke and the parking lot on the Hocksteinweg. You follow this until you reach the Teufelsbrücke, a stone bridge built as early as 1821, making it older than the famous Bastei Bridge.

After crossing the bridge, you arrive at the Hockstein, where a shelter and several viewpoints await with views over the Polenz Valley and Hohnstein Castle. On a rock, there is also a medieval engraved mill game to discover. From the Hockstein viewpoint, you can see the different geologically shaped valley forms (V-shaped in granite on the left, U-shaped in sandstone on the right).

Then the path leads down through the steep Wolf Gorge and circles the Hockstein until you reach the Polenz Valley. A detour to the Polenz Valley inn is recommended. The ascent through the Kohlichtgrund follows the left side along the green mark or the Hohnstein educational trail and crosses the Wartenbergstraße twice. Finally, you reach the Hocksteinweg again and return on it to the starting point at the bus stop.
