The starting point of this stage is the town of Oelsnitz with Voigtsberg Castle.
The first stop is St. Catherine's Church in Eichigt with its late Gothic wall paintings. Then descend into the Elster valley to Adorf, where you will find the Freiberger Gate, the oldest city gate in the Vogtland. Take the opportunity to visit the museum here.
The stage then leads to Schönberg in the southernmost corner of the Saxon Vogtland. From the castle or the nearby Kapellenberg Tower, you have a beautiful view over the wide plain of the Egerland.
Now proceed from Bad Elster into the Asch region. Besides the Vögte of Weida, the Neuberg and Zedtwitz families were influential here. Evidence of this medieval rule can be found today in Krugsreuth and especially in Neuberg, where a walk through the grounds of the former castle gives a good understanding of its former importance. More information can be found in the Asch city museum.
