Höckendorf - the village of families Sightseeing route Höckendorf and surroundings
Stations of the hiking route:
Station 1 Hiking station Edle Krone
Let us begin our village walk at Edle Krone station. This group of houses owes its name to a silver mining pit that was located in close proximity to the residential area. The museum station is a stop on the Saxon Steam Railway Route and the home of the Edle Krone e.V. promotion association. An ideal starting point for hikes towards the Klingenberg reservoir, Malter, and the Tharandt Forest. Along the Höckenbach creek in a deeply cut valley, the path leads us to Höckendorf. Scenic and picturesque, nestled between the valleys of the "Red" and "Wild" Weißeritz rivers with their Malter and Klingenberg reservoirs, the Tharandt Forest, and the ridge area of the Eastern Ore Mountains, a tourist gem has been created here.
Station 2 Höckendorf marketplace
Back in Höckendorf, passing the church built around 1300 located on the right side, we approach the village center. Here we find the attractively designed marketplace surrounded by the hotel-inn "Zum Erbgericht" with its seminar and conference rooms, a small shopping arcade, and the local museum. The hotel and café at the market invite you to stop by and relax. The small half-timbered house next to the hotel reception houses the lovingly managed local museum run by the "Kulturring Höckendorf e.V.". An extensive collection of household, family, and craft items offers interesting insights into village and regional life of bygone days. Delicate handiwork can be admired in the bobbin lace exhibition.
Station 3 Höckendorf wildlife park
From the marketplace, following Schenkberg towards Höckendorf Heath, you reach the sports field of the Höckendorf football club. However, we turn earlier towards the wildlife park. On an area of 4.5 hectares, over 60 animals of various species and breeds frolic. See for yourself how well alpacas, falabellas, nandus, saddle pigs, black-and-white lowland cattle, zebus, ponies, goats... and fallow deer feel in the animal-appropriate and landscape-adapted shelters, cared for by the "Wildlife Park Association Höckendorfer Heide e.V."
Station 4 Chairmaker
Leaving Höckendorf towards the south, in the district of Ruppendorf, you find a historic craft. Right next to the interior decorator Reichelt, chairmaker Ingolf Michael and his family pursue this traditional craft. High-quality precision work by hand, following rare chairmaking techniques handed down for centuries, ensures a special quality and long lifespan of the products in classic and modern styles by a third-generation chairmaker. Afterwards, we recommend a visit to the inn "Erbgericht" in Ruppendorf, offering traditional Saxon home cooking.
Station 5 Holiday farm and weaving workshop
Further south, right at the entrance of Beerwalde, you'll find the Näcke holiday farm. Besides an experience holiday at the beautiful three-sided farm, you can learn the old craft of basket weaving under expert guidance or relax on the terrace reading or enjoying the sun, play on the playground, feed the goats and pet the cats, sit by the campfire in summer making stick dough or build snow huts and sled in winter. Opposite the holiday farm, the "Rosenhof" guesthouse invites for a visit.
Station 6 Hahn farm bakery
Moving west from Höckendorf, passing the industrial area and our attractive residential area, we reach the district of Obercunnersdorf. There you find the top part of a Theler column mounted on a triangular signpost.
On the village road towards the Klingenberg reservoir, in the historic cross vault of the lovingly restored stable, master baker Egon Hahn offers delicious baked goods made from regional raw materials, and you can watch the master at work. From there, it is not far to the popular excursion restaurant "Waldschänke" with a magnificent view of the Klingenberg reservoir.
As other interesting excursion destinations, you can visit our district Colmnitz with the natural experience farm Weidegut and the Stracos Erlebniswelt - Ore Mountain wood art with sales and experiential gastronomy. A detour to the hiking hotel "Neue Höhe", known for its hospitality, rounds off the trip.
Simply find out yourself what you like best in our village Höckendorf in the municipality of Klingenberg and where the specialties of the Eastern Ore Mountains can be found.
