- Start: Fishermen's alley at the foot of Bautzen's historic old town
- Destination: Bus stop Pilgerschänke in Großpostwitz or final bus stop in Bautzen August-Bebel-Platz
On the Saxon Way of St. James / Spreeradweg, past the Spreebad, you go over the Neuesche Promenade into the Humboldthain. The mostly shaded path follows the river course to Grubschütz, where the "Spreetal" invites you to stop for a break. From here, you could either hike back the same way or continue along the Spree. The Doberschauer Schanze, a remnant of a Sorbian castle complex, is worth a detour. In Obergurig, the Old Watermill attracts visitors. It charmingly combines a technical monument and culinary delights. Continuing along the Spreeradweg, at the 300-year-old stone arch bridge, the Kuchenhäusel offers refreshment. Here, the old trade route Bautzen-Prague crossed the Spree. From Mönchswalde, you could take a bus back to Bautzen from the "Mönchswalde Wendeplatz" stop. Continue the tour along the road toward Berge, with a view of the Großpostwitz church tower on the left, walk into the village until the main road B96, and take a bus back from Pilgerschänke.
