Rugged idyll with a gentle characterWarmth and a sense of home on the one hand, wild romance on the other. In the highest region of the Free State of Saxony, the long-distance cycle route "Saxon Central Mountains" also offers a wide variety of scenery: Nature lovers will go into raptures at the idyllic forest and mountain meadows, floodplains and river valleys. Art and culture lovers, on the other hand, are fascinated by the traditional craftsmanship and the numerous traces of history. The route is exciting and varied: from Plauen along the Vogtland, the Elstergebirge, the Erzgebirge, Saxon Switzerland, the Lusatian Highlands and the Zittau Mountains to Zittau itself. The entire "Saxon Central Uplands" route, known as the "I-6" long-distance cycle route, covers around 500 kilometers. National cycling fun with international options 244 kilometers of it - precisely between Reinhardtsdorf-Schöna in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and the Eibenstock district of Carlsfeld in the Westerzgebirge - have had uniform and consistent markings since autumn 2014. A bright orange cyclist symbol shows hikers the way along roads and paved forest paths.
