This cross-border route takes you from Rosenthal-Bielatal over the scenic Grenzplatte to the highest mountain of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains - the Hoher Schneeberg. Along the way you not only walk through beautiful forests but can also admire impressive rocks and last but not least enjoy interesting views. The route was recorded in January with extreme snow depths, but it is especially recommended as a longer hike from April to October, which you can shorten or end below the Hoher Schneeberg after about 15 kilometers. More about this can be found in the further description!
The route has about 500 meters of elevation gain and only moderate, though sometimes long, ascents. Profile-wise it is not particularly difficult, but due to its length of around 20 kilometers it is classified as moderate.
Besides the route, there is also a small geological highlight in the Bieltal or after a short ascent from it - the so-called Bennohöhle - which invites a visit, so you should definitely have a light such as a flashlight or even a headlamp with you.
Otherwise, along the route, there are some places to rest and eat in Ostrov as well as in Schneeberg (Sneznik) or on the Hoher Schneeberg, where you can enjoy good Bohemian cuisine and recharge accordingly.
All in all, it is a very worthwhile hike that definitely makes a better impression in spring, summer, and autumn than in winter!
