The route leads through the beautiful landscape of the Preßnitz Valley to the ridge area of the Ore Mountains and offers a lot of narrow-gauge railway history - the best conditions for a relaxed ride, even with the family.
The Preßnitz Valley Cycle Route leads from Jöhstadt partly on forest paths, partly on the track of the former narrow-gauge railroad through one of the most beautiful river valleys in the Ore Mountains to Wolkenstein. There it connects to the Zschopautal cycle path.
Well signposted, it is ideal for families, especially as it almost completely avoids public roads. Interesting companions: the museum railroad running parallel to the route with its original preserved stations and the dense spruce forest. The playgrounds and several restaurants along the route provide plenty of variety and relaxation.
In Niederschmiedeberg, the Preßnitz Valley Museum is located directly on the cycle path with an exhibition on the economic and cultural history of the Preßnitz Valley region.
Along the cycle route, there are many interesting sights that tempt you to take a detour off the beaten track. The fortified church in Großrückerswalde or the Kreuzkapelle chapel in Mauersberg, for example, offer exciting insights into the ecclesiastical character and historical context of the Ore Mountains.
As the cycle path winds along the valley, the attentive visitor discovers countless contemporary witnesses to past railroad history along the way. In Wolkenstein, a detour to the castle and museum is always worth a visit. If you prefer a more sporty route, you can continue your tour on the Zschopau Valley cycle path or try your hand at via ferrata climbing in Wolkenstein Switzerland.
You can start in Jöhstadt, Wolkenstein or directly from the hiking parking lots along the route.
