This hike is particularly suitable in good weather and the icing on the cake would actually be snow. Depending on the icing of the paths, crampons would then be advisable.
Whether by car, bus or S-Bahn, Bad Schandau is very easy to reach as the starting point of this route. However, the entry towards Wustmanndörfel up to the Schlossberg can be easily confused. It is best to go directly from the Elbkai past the marketplace along Marktstraße to the north and then climb the steps to Zaukenpromenade. Once at the top, the ruins of Schomberg Castle overlook here. The ridge path between Kirnitzschtal and Zaukengraben then leads to Wustmanndörfel. This has only limited connection to the well-known naturalist Erich Wustmann. He himself actually lived in Ostrau at the time. From here, the path is very clear. It is well signposted and leads with a gentle incline through small woods, over heights and through small hollows. In glorious winter weather, this path is truly a delight for the eyes and the hiking heart. It is also fascinating how the perspective on Falkenstein, the Schrammsteine chain, the Affensteine and the Zschand changes along the way. Shortly before Hochbusch in Sebnitz, you can look back nicely over Lichtenhain again and in the distance see the distinctive Schrammsteine. The forest path to Sebnitz is then rather very forestry-oriented. Many felled trees along the path and a bleak clear-cut with a view of the silk flower town stand in stark contrast to the other part of the route.
