This is the first section on the Freiberger Mulde with a total length of 8.2 km.
The source of the Freiberger Mulde just behind the German-Czech border can only be reached by muscle power. We are rewarded with fantastic panoramic views over the enchanted Bohemian Ore Mountains, quaint places to stop for a break – and an entertaining return ride.

Source of the Freiberger Mulde in Czech Moldava
We come out of the train station in Holzhau, turn left and leave the village behind us. After a short time, we cross the Mulde – at the upper course a rather small brook – cross the road and switch to the forest path alongside the road, running close to the river. Behind the pond house, we change to the hiking trail that runs parallel on the right side of the road. From here, the border crossing to the Czech Republic is already signposted, which we pass – and enjoy the fantastic wide view. We follow the path until it meets a road. Then we continue straight ahead into the small Czech village Moldava. After about 700 meters, we see the village church on the right side. About one kilometer further, the street branches off to the right over a small bridge. We take this turn and follow the steep ascent. In between, we pass typical Czech guesthouses and scattered bungalows; the forest becomes denser. In a sudden left curve, we see a sign on the right side that leads us on a forest path to the source of the Freiberger Mulde. We enjoy the sound of the forest and the subsequent descent back to Holzhau!

Arrival by car:
Coming from the west, it is recommended to take the A72 motorway to Chemnitz, then the country road to Nassau.
Coming from the north, it is recommended to take the A13 to Dresden, followed by a winding section on federal roads B170 and B171.

From Chemnitz by train to Freiberg (Saxony), from there with the RB to Bienenmühle. Change to bus 733 towards Neuhermsdorf (Old Train Station Street). 5.4 km to Moldava.
