Muldentalbahn cycle path (Grimma - Wurzen)

During the ride, the towns Döben, Nerchau, Neichen, Trebsen, Oelschütz, and Dehnitz are passed. Detours to these towns are recommended because, as described later, there are many interesting things to discover there. In Grimma, there is a connection to the Parthe-Mulde cycle route; in Wurzen, to the Leipzig-Elbe cycle route. Those who want to leave the cycle path towards the Elbe have the option in Neichen to switch to the Mulde-Elbe cycle route. Arrival by car or train is possible in both Grimma and Wurzen, as both towns have train connections and sufficient parking spaces.
On today’s cycle path, which was opened in December 2004, the Muldentalbahn still ran until 1969. The full railway line once began in Glauchau southwest of Grimma and ended in Wurzen. To attract tourists, the former railway embankment was expanded on 13.5 km of the old track bed and asphalted 2.25 m wide. The rest of the route runs on little-trafficked roads, so the route is well suited for families.
