Explore the picturesque section of the Mittellandroute between Zittau and the Valtenberg. The route passes through varied landscapes, charming villages, and historical sights.

Zittau at the tri-border area forms a fitting start for the Mittellandroute, which eventually ends in Aachen after passing through Saxony and Thuringia. The small town with its baroque buildings holds a treasure that complements the Aachen Cathedral well: the large Lenten cloth from the 15th century, one of the most beautiful and significant in Europe.
The cycle path towards Dresden leads through the gentle rolling hills of the Zittau Mountains past Ebersbach. In this picture-book town, particularly beautiful half-timbered houses have been preserved; additionally, one of the three sources of the Spree springs picturesquely beneath the attractive Spreeborn pavilion. A section of the Spree cycle path naturally forms part of the route before continuing on to Dresden – which also shines with outstanding art treasures.
