On little-trafficked roads and meadow paths, the "Lutherweg Sachsen" runs along the river "Pleiße" from the former residence town Altenburg to Borna. Not only the large cities are worth seeing. In the small villages along the way, you also encounter remarkable churches and historically valuable houses.

This route starts in Altenburg and passes the Windischleuba reservoir. At the Pahna lake campsite, the Thuringian Lutherweg meets its Saxon counterpart. Through dense forests, it approaches the town of Whyra. The path continues via Zedtlitz, along the Whyra floodplain, into the city center of Borna.

Altenburg holds special significance for the Reformation. It was not only one of the most important residences of the Saxon electors but is also connected with the name Georg Spalatin, who was the closest confidant, secretary, and confessor of Elector Frederick the Wise. As Luther's confidant, Spalatin was for years an important mediator between Luther and the elector.
