This route takes hikers from Rochlitz Castle through the beautiful landscape of Saxon Burgenland, past Wechselburg Monastery, the only monastery still inhabited on the Luther Trail Saxony, where you can also spend the night.
Situated on the Zwickauer Mulde, the over 1,000-year-old town of Rochlitz with its castle offers a unique ambience. From Rochlitzer Berg, you have a wonderful view over the Mulde landscape. The trail runs almost exclusively along the river, and hikers can enjoy the Mulde valley along quiet meadow paths and idyllic village streets until they reach their destination of Penig. The town of Penig has been Protestant since 1539. From 1543, it belonged to the Lords of Schönburg. They had Johann Pfeffinger draw up their own church order for their territories, as they wanted to be independent of their sovereign.
