Between Leipzig and Markranstädt, Kulkwitzer See was opened as a local recreation area in the 1970s after renaturation measures.
Around its shores, it fascinates with diverse vegetation. Especially the forest on the spoil heap in the south invites to walks. The water quality itself is excellent, which is why the lake is considered one of the most important diving waters in Central Germany. Various bathing beaches invite you to relax around the 150-hectare lake.
