On the trail of a Sorbian legendary figure
Welcome to a legendary beautiful region. The region between Bautzen, Kamenz, and Hoyerswerda is the home of KRABAT, the best-known legendary figure of the bilingual Lusatia.
Who knows, maybe the magical powers of the miller and sorcerer's apprentice still work between Deutschbaselitz, Crostwitz, and Wittichenau. The route full of cultural and natural treasures certainly contains many memories of Krabat. The most important contemporary witness is the mill of Schwarzkollm – after all, it was his Black School. The imaginative KRABAT playground in Kamenz was inspired by the old Sorbian legend. The route continues through flat land whose soils Krabat is said to have made fertile by showing the farmers how to drain swamps. As the head of the manor in Groß Särchen, he fooled the wealthy cattle dealers. Whether he also teased the Cistercians in the monastery of St. Marienstern in Panschwitz-Kuckau is not recorded. But it fits just as magically into the world of the Sorbian legend as the pilgrimage church in Rosenthal, the listed cemetery in Ralbitz, and the post mill in Dörgenhausen.
