Autounion was Germany's first state-owned automobile company. On this tour, you will discover the historic sites of the merged brands DKW, Audi, Horch and Wanderer.

The 4 rings have remained. Audi's trademark has a strong significance for the Ore Mountains and Chemnitz. On this tour, you will follow in the footsteps of its history.

Starting in the motorcycle town of Zschopau, home of the Zschopau engine works J. S. Rasmussen (DKW), we get to know the company founder and his history at Wildeck Castle. The tour continues to Augustusburg. The "Crown of the Ore Mountains" with its motorcycle museum can be seen from afar. There are also a number of cafés here that invite you to linger.

In Chemnitz we pay a visit to the "Wanderer". In the industrial museum or in the vehicle museum "Hochgarage" you can still marvel at some of the cars.

We return to Zschopau via the moated castle of Klaffenbach through the beautiful Ore Mountains landscape.

If you still haven't seen enough, you can continue on to Zwickau. Here, the August Horch Museum has an impressive exhibition.

A stop at the Sachsen-Ring in Hohenstein Ernstthal is well worthwhile.

Getting there

Approach via B174 coming from Chemnitz or Marienberg, exit Zschopau Süd in the direction of the center. Wildeck Castle is located in the immediate vicinity of the Alt- and Neumarkt in Zschopau. Coming from Augustusburg via S228 (Waldkirchener Straße) follow the signs to the center.

Attention : There are many detours in the city center until the end of July 2021

Parking is available directly at the castle courtyard (free of charge for two hours with a parking disk), as well as at the Altmarkt Zschopau, parking areas at the facilities, parking lots "Gartenstraße" and on Bahnhofstraße
