On this hike, you’ll discover the unique forests of the Ore Mountains. The route takes you along varied hiking trails to the Herklotzmühle, which is operated on a volunteer basis by a local association. Overall, the loop is considered challenging. Along the way, you’ll pass the Pöbelknochen, one of the 14 eight-thousanders in the Eastern Ore Mountains.
The tour is not suitable for strollers or wheelchair users.

Directions
- You’ll start at the Altenberg Tourist Information Center. From there, hike toward Galgenteich along the Schellerhauer Weg. Turn left behind the large Galgenteich pond and continue straight ahead. At the end of the path, turn right onto Schneise 31, then left again onto the Seifenflügelweg. Then turn onto Schneise 28. You’ll pass Schellerhau via the Alte Zinnstraße and the Landweg. At the intersection in front of the Botanical Garden, turn left onto the Zechenweg and the Zinnstraße, which will lead you directly to the Herklotzmühle. On the way back, follow the Grabenweg, which runs parallel to Talstraße. At the end of the path, turn left toward Altenberg. Follow the Gabelweg and then head back via the Seifenflügelweg and around the Galgenteich to return to the starting point.
