The Elster cycle route runs about 230 km from the source near the Czech town of Aš to the mouth of the White Elster into the Saale near Halle in Saxony-Anhalt.
The route guidance has been chosen mostly on roads along the riverbank, and occasionally also along quiet small country roads. The Elster cycle route itself is still being developed, so that constant improvements in the route quality are being achieved, but it is not suitable for racing bikes.
After starting on the Czech side, it goes to the German border at Bad Elster. Numerous wellness and cultural offerings as well as the historic spa park are available for a relaxing stay at the spa. Only a few kilometers away is the small town of Adorf on the route, where there is a miniature exhibition with selected sights of the Vogtland and a botanical garden. It continues through culturally and urban interesting places such as Oelsnitz, the Pirk reservoir, Weischlitz to Plauen. It is definitely worth a short stop to explore the city. Following the route are the Pöhl reservoir, Elsterberg and the princely town Greiz. Visit both the princely castles and the Princely Greiz Park! Then on to Wünschendorf and Gera. The route then leads to Bad Köstritz, where the racing cyclist leaves Vogtland and continues towards the estuary.
