The mining nature trail invites you to take a tour through the medieval mining town of Dippoldiswalde. At seven locations/stations where archaeological research has been carried out, it provides information on interesting topics related to medieval mining.
The information board for the Dippoldiswalde Mining Trail, which is located at the entrance to the Dippoldiswalde Polypark (near the Kleinbahn railroad station), is the starting point for the tour of the Mining Trail.
In addition to an introduction to the importance and significance of the mining archaeological finds in Dippoldiswalde at the bus station (Station 1), the focus is primarily on underground mining operations (Stations 2 - 4).
Excavations above ground, important historical data and the relationship between mining and the environment are also presented. Stations 2, 5 and 6 trace the history of Dippoldiswalde and its mining community as well as the everyday lives of medieval miners.
Finally, Station 3 on the north-eastern edge of the town (Glashütter Straße) provides an insight into the extent to which the immediate and wider surroundings of Dippoldiswalde were shaped and changed by medieval mining.
Station 7, at the old gate of the "Oberschule am Pfortenberg Dippoldiswalde", provides interesting and informative insights into the historical history of geology in connection with medieval mining in Dippoldiswalde.
Visit our mining nature trail as well as the "MiBERZ" (Museum of Medieval Mining in the Ore Mountains) and the "LOHGERBER Museum and Gallery Dippoldiswalde".
