On this circular route south of Olbernhau, fantastic views of the city of the seven valleys compensate for the strenuous climb. Then you relax as you walk through dense beech forest past streams and rest areas for quite a stretch on the ridge path to the Grünthal Saigerhütte complex. The Saiger process was used to extract silver and copper from silver-bearing copper ores, today a noteworthy UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Erzgebirge / Krušnohoří Mining Region.
Follow the white-red-white marking (EB) towards the station. Continue on Rübenauer Weg. At the Hammerweg junction continue on the white-blue-white marking to the Großer Steinbach. From there on the ridge path past the Stößerfelsen to the Grünthaler Straße hiking car park. From there on the white-red-white marking back to the starting point.
