The starting point of the hike is the parking lot at the "Dreibrückenbad," located directly on the B6 after the entrance to the town coming from Leipzig. You turn right heading north and follow along the promenade the route and signage of the Muldental hiking trail, one of the main tourist routes towards Nischwitz. On Dorfstraße, you pass a church, castle, and castle park, then take the next street to the left. Via Straße der Einheit and Thomas-Müntzer-Ring, you reach Canitz via a gravel path. Here it’s worth leaving the route, which leads left over a footbridge across the Mulde, to take a detour to Canitz Park, a historic resting place. After crossing the Mulde bridge, continue straight on the unpaved path. After about 400 m, the alternative Mulde cycle path leads towards Nepperwitz. Castle and castle park Püchau remain on the right and are definitely worth a visit, reached after leaving the route at 1.9 km. Shortly before Nepperwitz, you arrive at Püchau Street and walk left into the village. Following the alternative Mulde cycle path further, Grubnitz is soon reached. In the village, turn right onto Grubnitzer Weg. You follow Püchau Street to the left through Deuben, passing the Evangelical parish church with its Geißler organ. Then you reach the B6 and walk right on it, leaving after 700 meters to the left towards Altenbach. After the railway underpass, turn left and immediately right again. Pausitzer Street leads past the forest settlement and finally into the forest. Turning left into Karlsallee along the straight forest path, you reach the Vorderer Planitz Forest. You cross Leulitzer Street and at the next crossroads turn left onto the nature trail towards Schmölén. You cross Rehberg and Altenbach Street. From here, you follow the Muldental hiking trail again and pass through the village of Schmölén. Via Fährstraße, you get to the Mulde ferry. After the crossing, take the path to the left, cross the Dehnitzer Lache, a side arm of the Mulde, and go slightly uphill to Dehnitz. The Wachtelberg landscape nature reserve with its observation tower stretches on the right. A detour is worthwhile, as is visiting the Golden Valley nature trail. Continue hiking to the left along Dehnitzer Weg towards Wurzen. Again turn left into Damaschkestraße and reach the Mulde with its Mulde weir. Turn right onto the Mulde cycle path and walk along the canal directly back to the starting point, the parking lot at the "Dreibrückenbad."
