With this bike route, you explore the European city Görlitz/Zgorzelec and ride along the Neisse River on both the Polish and German sides.
The two cities Görlitz and Zgorzelec stand, like only a few cities in Europe, directly for European history: separation after World War II, tentative rapprochement, closed borders, and intensive joint developments since the political change in the former GDR in 1989.
Together with Zgorzelec, the Polish district located on the eastern side of the Neisse River, Görlitz declared itself a European city in 1998 and serves as an example of how people from two nations can overcome borders. Since the expansion of the European Union in 2004, the city has literally moved to the center of the continent. International cooperation in all areas has since formed the basis for the exciting further development of the city in Europe.
