Sunny weather is always nice for hiking. But those who want to get to know the mystical side of Saxon Switzerland are recommended to take this hike in rainy weather.
From the center of Bad Schandau, you take the Historic Lift directly up to Ostrau. Here you have a wonderful view over the town into the Elbe valley and to the Lilienstein, which seems to dominate everything. After a short but steep ascent to the Ostrau settlement, you stand directly at the new Skywalk. It was inaugurated only at the end of 2018.
Once Ostrau is behind you, you head into the mystical forests of Saxon Switzerland. These are dotted with huge moss-covered sandstone blocks, ancient roots, and steep rock walls. From Falkenstein, the Müllerstein, across the Schrammtor, the Devil's Tower, to the Rauschenstein. The walk along the foot of these impressive rocks follows the Elbleitenweg and is mostly leisurely. Here thoughts come to rest and with a little imagination, associations to old fairy tales and legends can quickly arise in the silence. At the end of the path, you finally reach the cozy village of Schmilka. Here you can end this beautiful route with a self-brewed beer or a hot tea before returning by bus or S-Bahn to Bad Schandau.
