Marienberg's completely regular town layout is considered a prime example of Renaissance town planning north of the Alps. A tour of the town leads across the large square market square with the monument to the town's founder, past the town hall with one of Saxony's most important Renaissance portals, numerous town houses, the Zschopauthe Zschopau Gate, the last surviving of the original five town gates, the Lindenhäuschen, a testimony to simple mining housing culture, to the beautifully renovated St. Mary's Church, Saxony's youngest church. Marien, Saxony's youngest late Gothic hall church. The museums and visitor mines vividly tell of the heyday of mining in Marienberg, including the "horse-drawn pithead on the Rudolphschacht" in Lauta, which is a unique open pithead in the Ore Mountains. You can easily reach the Lauta district from the town center by car. However, there are more traces of mining to discover on a short hike along the Marienberg mining nature trail, which takes you from the center of Marienberg to the "Pferdegöpel" in Lauta!
