Zoo Dresden

At a glance

Only a few minutes from the city centre, visitors can experience a fascinating journey through the animal kingdom in the fourth oldest zoo of Germany.

A zoo for everyone - in the middle of Dresden
The fourth oldest zoo in Germany is home to more than 200 animal species and is much more than just a place to visit: it enables respectful encounters between humans and animals and is a showcase for the beauty and fascination of nature. Just a few minutes away from the baroque hustle and bustle of the city, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Humboldt penguins, snow leopards and elephants. In natural, partly walk-in enclosures, you can find yourself surrounded by the pink inhabitants of the flamingo aviary or meet giraffes at eye level.

In the new orangutan house, other Southeast Asian animals such as smooth otters, binturong and giant tortoises have found a new home alongside the great apes.

The mixture of rare species such as the golden takin or the spectacled langur and absolute visitor favorites such as koalas and sloths makes the zoo a special experience for young and old at any time of year.
