Wildgehege Moritzburg (Game Reserve)

At a glance

First to Elector Augustus' hunting lodge and then to the electoral game reserve: a combination that is particularly recommended for families in Moritzburg.

The forest around Moritzburg near Dresden has many a surprise in store for nature-loving visitors. The historic game reserve is certainly one of them. The day trip is particularly recommended for families with children. The spacious enclosures are almost exclusively home to native game species, some of which can be stroked.

The game reserve has its origins in the old electoral "Thiergarten", which was laid out directly around Moritzburg Castle 300 years ago. The Saxon nobles hunted there, and later also the king's diplomatic guests. As early as the end of the 19th century, the Wettin family opened the zoo to visitors during feeding times. The game reserve fulfills its role as the largest forest education facility of the Sachsenforst state enterprise by providing interactive panels and stations with information about the native forest animals, accompanying brochures and a forest rally. If you still haven't had enough, you can extend your nature experience with a visit to the adventure park or a guided tour of the Moritzburg game reserve.
