Monastery book

At a glance

The Cistercian monastery was founded in 1192. The monastery was founded by Burgrave Heinrich von Leisnig.

By 1250, all the buildings and a wall had been erected to protect the monastery, the remains of which can still be seen today. The chapter house and the abbot's house with infirmary and infirmary chapel are completely preserved. The ruins of the former brewery and the Neccessarium - a monk's toilet - can also be admired. As in every Cistercian monastery, hard work and obedience were part of daily life here, as well as choral prayer and singing.
Today, the historic walls of the monastery, situated in the idyllic landscape of the Mulde river, are a magnet for many visitors.
