The history of the Dresden Kreuzchor dates back over seven centuries.
The history of the Dresden Kreuzchor dates back over seven centuries. Founded as a Latin school at the "capella sanctae crucis", today's Kreuzkirche (Church of the Holy Cross), this choir preserved the medieval tradition of liturgical boy's choirs until today. As the oldest artistic institution supported by the city of Dresden the choir is an indispensable part of the city's identity. Obligation and foundation of its artistic work is the development of the Musica sacra during services and vespers on every weekend in the Kreuzkirche Dresden. The repertoire ranges from the early baroque works of Heinrich Schütz or Johann Sebastian Bach and the choir music of the 19th century up to the modern age.
