Together with the districts of Kosel, See, Ödernitz, and Stannewisch, Niesky has about 10,000 inhabitants. The development of the town is closely linked to the Herrnhut Brethren Community. The town center is formed by Zinzendorfplatz in simple rural Baroque style. It was voted one of the ten most beautiful squares in Germany in a nationwide competition.
In the oldest house in Niesky, a Bohemian half-timbered house, you will find the city museum and tourist information. From here, the discovery route along the Niesky wooden house path begins. Almost 100 wooden houses in prefabricated construction are situated in the urban area of Niesky. The most famous is the Konrad-Wachsmann-Haus, which impresses with its objective, Bauhaus-oriented design language. Today, it invites visitors to explore with the exhibition "Wooden Buildings of Modernism."
Nature lovers will be delighted by the extensive mixed forests around Niesky and the unique biosphere reserve "Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape," with well-developed cycling and hiking paths. Directly on the outskirts of the city is the Quitzdorfer Stausee, a destination for fishing enthusiasts and ornithologists. For swimming, there are numerous lakes and a spaciously designed adventure pool. The adjacent sports facility offers options for sports and play. In winter, the covered ice rink invites you to ice sports.
