We are delighted to welcome you to the Ratskeller in the historic town hall of Marienberg.
Before you indulge in the culinary delights of our house, pause for a moment and listen to the stories that the old walls tell to anyone who wants to hear them.
The "Rats Trinkstube" was established in 1524 with the construction of the first wooden town hall. According to the town accounts, a new Ratskeller was built in 1537, when construction of the new town hall began, and was later joined by four more rooms. Beer and wine were served from the "Ratskeller" to the duke, electors, bailiffs, mining masters, miners' elders and other high-ranking guests at the expense of the town treasury. Street sales from this pub also generated a considerable income for the city coffers.
The drinking and taproom even had an inventory of pewter and silver tableware. The people of Marienberg were particularly fond of celebrating weddings and other merry festivities in the "Rats Trinkstube".However, no more beer was allowed to be served and no more cards and dice games could take place once the tower clock had struck 21:00. A "drinking room regulation" ensured compliance with the law and the maintenance of good manners.
Finally, the Ratskellerwirtschaft was established and leased in 1870, until it was completely redesigned in 1986.
In 2005, the wine tavern was separated from the Ratskeller and converted into a tourist information center.
