Following the successful year of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, in which 253,000 visitors were welcomed to the six museums, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz will continue to offer a multi-layered and varied exhibition program in 2026. In the museums of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, the focus will be on major themes such as utopia and myth, loss and mourning, as well as everyday life and memories of the past.
Parallel to the themes of the anniversary exhibition "Allegories of Life. Ursula Mattheuer-Neustädt and Wolfgang Mattheuer", the cross-epochal exhibition "Myth" (3. 10. 2026 - 21. 2. 2027) deals with collective narratives and heroic figures and examines how roles and themes from the past continue to permeate the digital present.
