Lusatian Fish Weeks

Carp chips, smoked trout, zander, or tench: In the coming weeks, fish from local ponds will once again be making their way onto plates throughout Upper Lusatia.
The Lusatian Fish Weeks have now kicked off for the 25th time with the fish harvest at the Erlichthof in Rietschen. Through November 1, visitors can enjoy fish-handling demonstrations, hikes, and other events centered on Lusatian pond fisheries.
In addition, restaurants throughout the region are featuring special fish dishes on their menus.

Pond farming has been part of Upper Lusatia for eight centuries.The management of these ponds has created a cultural landscape that today serves as a habitat for numerous animal and plant species.
Lusatian fish is closely tied to this landscape. The journey from the pond to the farm stand or to a restaurant’s kitchen is short. At the same time, a great deal of work goes into it.
The ponds must be maintained, water levels regulated, and the fish raised over the course of several years.

The Lusatian Fish Weeks coincide exactly with the fishing season. For 25 years, they have been bringing together pond farms, restaurants, and event organizers.
