With his atmospheric use of light, cheerful and lively figures and original new formulations of religious and erotic pictorial themes, Antonio Allegri, known as Correggio (1489-1534), is one of the most influential painters in the history of art.

Although the artist, who worked in Parma and the surrounding area, can be placed alongside greats such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Titian due to his history of influence, his name and his works are less familiar today. Based on the unique collection of the artist's panel paintings in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister and the restoration of his Madonna of St. Sebastian, the Dresden exhibition on Correggio - the first ever exhibition on the painter's complete oeuvre outside Italy - brings together outstanding international loans. The focus is on Correggio's mastery in the depiction of emotion, through which he succeeded like no other before in giving the divine a deeply human face.

The exhibition can be seen from September 19, 2026 to January 10, 2027 at the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in the Dresden Zwinger.
