The circular route starts at the Thalheim Easter Fountain, where the tradition of the Easter fountains around the Greifensteine and in the Zwönitz valley was established. This fountain is located opposite the Thalheim town hall.
From there, follow the main road towards Zwönitz/Dorfchemnitz/Brünlos and turn right after leaving Thalheim towards Brünlos/Stollberg. Stay on the Brünlos main road until you see the primary school on the right. On the left side of the road is the Brünlos municipal administration and right next to it is a parking lot. The Easter fountain is located at the parish church.
After viewing the Easter fountain, drive back towards Thalheim and turn right at the junction just before Thalheim towards Dorfchemnitz and Zwönitz. Follow the main road to Dorfchemnitz and the signs to the local history museum and technical monument "Knochenstampfe". The Easter fountain is located in front of the museum. Also visit the exhibition "Saxony's most beautiful Easter nest" with the motto "The rabbits are loose!" featuring numerous exhibits.
From the Knochenstampfe, continue through Dorfchemnitz to Zwönitz OT Niederzwönitz. Follow Niederzwönitz Street and the signs to the Technical Museum "Paper Mill". There you will find another Easter fountain. Additionally, the Paper Mill offers courses for papermaking for Easter and spring decorations during the Easter period from 18 - 22 April 2019. Please register in advance if necessary. Contact details can be found under Further Information and Links.
From the Paper Mill, continue along the main road into the Zwönitz town center. The four Easter fountains in Zwönitz town center are close together and can be easily viewed on foot. Parking is available at the market in Zwönitz. There are also parking spaces at the Zwönitz city hotel from which you can comfortably reach the town center and the Austelpark for an Easter walk. The Easter fountains are located at the marketplace in front of the town hall, at Neumarkt, on Alten Schulstraße, and at Mühlberg.
From Zwönitz, after your visit, drive on Annaberger Street/S258 to Elterlein. At the market, where you can also admire the Barbara-Uttmann fountain, you will find the Easter fountain. Tip: An Easter market takes place every year in Elterlein.
From Elterlein, the tour continues to Geyer. On the way, you pass the Elterlein church and the Schwarzen Teich. Continuing on the street, you enter the town center of Geyer. Turn left at the town hall to Altmarkt. There you will find the Easter fountain at Altmarkt.
From Altmarkt in Geyer, follow August-Bebel-Straße/Thumer Straße towards Greifensteine. After climbing out of the town center, you pass the Greifensteine leisure pool. This is also a great option to round off your Easter outing even in bad weather. If you continue on Thumer Straße, you also pass the Greifenbach reservoir, which invites you to take a walk along the shore at any time of the year. Follow Thumer Straße further and after an ascent through the Geyri Forest, turn right onto Giftmehlweg to Ehrenfriedersdorf.
From Giftmehlweg, a detour along the signs to the Greifensteine rock formation is worthwhile, where an Easter hike is especially recommended. On the site, you will also find an adventure playground and can view the elaborately carved comic and mythical creatures along the Forest Ghost Trail. Information is available at the Greifensteine Tourist Information, where you can also take part in an Easter puzzle about the region around the Greifensteine.
After these eventful detours to the excursion destinations of the Greifenstein region, you arrive at Ehrenfriedersdorf on the Giftmehlweg. There you will find the Ehrenfriedersdorf Easter fountain at the market. The Zinngrube mine in Ehrenfriedersdorf is also worth a visit. During Easter, a diverse program with special tours awaits you there.
From Ehrenfriedersdorf, drive to Thum, where the Easter decorated music box can be found at the town hall, which was added to the tour in 2021. A detour to the animal park is also worthwhile, where a particularly popular animal awaits you. From there, continue the circular route to Amtsberg.
In the Amtsberg district of Dittersdorf, you will find the next Easter fountain, located on the Dittersdorf bypass near the B180. From Ehrenfriedersdorf or Thum, follow the S232 to Gelenau. At the junction in Gelenau, go straight toward Weißbach. After about 3.5 km, turn onto the B180 towards Dittersdorf/Burkhardtsdorf. After about 2 km, turn right onto Dittersdorf Street, where you can already see the Dittersdorf Easter fountain. There is also a remarkable Easter decoration on Mühlweg towards Burkhardtsdorf OT Kemtau. Maybe you will make a spontaneous detour there...
The next Easter fountain is in Gelenau. For this, drive back to Gelenau from Dittersdorf and turn right at the junction you were at before. Follow the priority road uphill until you see the Easter fountain at Rathausplatz on the right.
Continue along Straße der Einheit through Gelenau and follow the signs after about 3 km to the big Easter exhibition at Depot Pohl-Ströher. There you will find a diverse Easter and toy exhibition.
The next highlight awaits you in Auerbach. Cross the B95 towards Auerbach at the outskirts of Gelenau and drive past Schwarzen Teich. At the next junction, turn right towards Auerbach and stay on Thumer Straße. After the ice cream shop on the right, on the left opposite the municipal administration, you will find the Auerbach "Riesen-Fansterbratl", which is elaborately decorated at Easter and Christmas time.
From the "Fansterbratl", drive back in the direction from which you came. At the traffic light at the ice cream shop, turn right and follow the street until you turn right towards Hormersdorf. Follow the street into the Zwönitz district of Hormersdorf and turn right onto the priority road. Then turn right towards Gornsdorf. On the left at the village square, you will find the Easter fountain at the Mundart clock.
Continue along the main road from Hormersdorf to Gornsdorf. There you will reach the junction, where you can turn right again towards Auerbach, but continue straight. Follow the main road through Gornsdorf until you see the bank on the left. The municipal administration is on the right, and you will probably already see the large, colorfully decorated Gornsdorf Easter fountain.
If you continue along the Gornsdorf main road, you will reach the B180 again and can turn left there towards Thalheim to return to the start of your circular route.
