Station of the Weißeritztalbahn Schmiedeberg
Station of the Weißeritztalbahn Obercarsdorf
We start the hike at the Weisseritztalbahn station, Hp. Schmiedeberg-Naundorf, following the road uphill for approx. 500m to a bench with a signpost "Aussichtsturm 400 m". Follow the adjacent path next to a small stream for another 400m until you reach the village of Obernaundorf. Approx. 350m further uphill, the hiker reaches the former castle/knight's estate Naundorf, which is currently being restored. The first refreshment stop is another 350m along the road in the historic restaurant "Zur Schmiede", which is open daily from 5.00 pm. Closing days are Wednesday and Thursday. Opposite the castle is the entrance to the castle park. We enter through a wrought-iron gate flanked by two sandstone pillars. On the main axis of the path is the fountain, which was built in 1925 and renovated in 2013. Passing it in a northerly direction through the park and some woodland, we reach the "Ottos Eck" observation tower, built in 1867 and restored in 2003. The tower is open from April to October on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 09:00 to 18:00. The view of the Weißeritz valley is particularly beautiful and invites you to linger and enjoy the view to the full. Relax and follow the path at the back of the tower and discover an obelisk commemorating the Otto family about 50 m to the right in the forest. We now follow the path further downhill, reach a wider forest path and turn left along it. At the later fork in the road, we continue downhill for approx. 1 km until we reach the junction with the B 171. There, behind the crash barrier, we see an old wayside pillar with the initials O.B.1898 (obviously erected by Oskar Bierling).
Now we follow the road briefly uphill and turn sharp right onto the first path with a green hiking sign "Obercarsdorf 2 km". Ascending through the forest for about 400 m, initially still within sight of the signpost on the main road, then without markings, we reach a height with a beautiful view of Obercarsdorf, Dippoldiswalde and the foothills. On a meadow path, we now follow the green hiking markings downhill along the forest towards Obercarsdorf. At the beginning of the village, turn right along the asphalt road until you reach the junction with Sonnenblick. Follow this road for approx. 20m and then turn right again onto the signposted pedestrian path to the train station. The second refreshment stop is approx. 200m further straight ahead in the "Gasthof Obercarsdorf". The opening hours are Thursday to Monday 11:00 - 14:00 and from 17:30, Tuesday 11:00 - 14:00, Wednesday closed
