Family railway hiking trail Kurort Kipsdorf - Schmiedeberg
After a leisurely steam train ride on the Weißeritz Valley Railway, the hiking trail back to Schmiedeberg offers a good opportunity to get active yourself. From the Kurort Kipsdorf train station, follow the footpath along the B 170 towards Schmiedeberg. You will pass the Catholic chapel "Maria im Gebirge". After around 600 m, cross the Rote Weißeritz on the left and you will reach the start of the hiking trail, which is signposted here as the "Cycling and hiking trail to Schmiedeberg". Follow the well-surfaced, enchanting forest path to Schmiedeberg for about 3 km. On the way, you will meet the tracks of the Weißeritz Valley Railway again and walk above the Schmiedeberg-Buschmühle stop. Shortly afterwards, the hiking trail turns almost at right angles to the left. Continue straight ahead here, following the signs for "Schmiedeberg Zentrum", and descend on a narrower path to the road "An der Anewand". Turn left here and then immediately right again towards the center of Schmiedeberg. Along the 1.2 km long section of the path, enjoy the view of the beautiful and lovingly designed gardens along the way. The path through the garden estate ends in Schenkgasse, which you follow downhill to the right. Now you can already see the Weißeritztalbahn railroad bridge spanning the street. Schenkgasse leads you directly into the center of Schmiedeberg. To reach Schmiedeberg railroad station, turn right at the fire station building into the town park, cross it and then turn right into the street "Zum Bahnhof", which will take you directly to the railroad station.
