Schminke House

At a glance

The Haus Schminke in Löbau is known worldwide as an architectural icon.

Haus Schminke in Löbau is one of four outstanding examples of the “new building” and “international style” styles in the world. The Modernist building from 1930 was a true architectural icon in Upper Lusatia. The architect Hans Scharoun designed the building, which is now listed as a monument, for the pasta manufacturer Fritz Schminke. Extravagance and functionality meet. The curved body with terrace, the external staircase, portholes and a mighty chimney are reminiscent of a stranded ship – hence the nickname “noodle steamer. ” Flowing transitions in the living area and generous glass surfaces that harmoniously connect the exterior and interior create a unique atmosphere between space and transparency. Haus Schminke is an absolute highlight for architecture, art and design enthusiasts. With the help of audio guides or a guided tour the house can be explored. To experience the unique feeling of living for yourself, Haus Schminke offers exclusive accommodation.
