The other Wife - World premiere

At a glance

World premiere. Musical theater in ten scenes Libretto by Helmut Krausser

On behalf of the Semperoper, composer Torsten Rasch and author Helmut Krausser developed a musical theater work based on the biblical story of Abram and his wife Sarai. “The Other Woman” tells the triangle story about the “surrogate mother” Hagar, who is rejected after the birth of Sarai’s son Isaac. The biblical story stands for the emergence of the three monotheistic world religions, for war and peace, hatred, loss of home, love and tolerance. Torsten Rasch uses early Babylonian text in his composition. With passages for Iranian singer Sussan Deyhim, she opens a window into a completely different musical culture. Originally planned for the 2019/20 season, the Semperoper is now finally bringing “The Other Woman” to the stage and inviting her audience to an unusual place: opera shop and audience find their place together on the stage of the Semperoper. . The auditorium becomes part of the stage action and allows the audience a different viewpoint of its original place.
