The other view. Max Pechstein: photography

At a glance

The exhibition shows a new facet of Max Pechstein (1881-1955)

For the first time, photographs taken by him are presented in a museum context and are linked directly to his oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and prints. Divided into different thematic areas and embedded in more than 35 outstanding works from Max Pechstein’s early to late works, which are placed in dialogue with the recordings, allow a new, sharpened look at the oeuvre of the Zwickau-born artist. In addition, the photographs collide with illustrated letters from Max Pechstein as another authentic source, which provide insights into his world of thoughts and feelings on site, and an initial dating of the small-format black-and-white photographs is to be made possible.
