Special exhibition of the Stadtmuseum Dresden in cooperation with the Industriemuseum Chemnitz.
In cooperation with the Stadtmuseum Dresden, the Industriemuseum Chemnitz presents the facets of this then new industry in Saxony: Discover the development of tobacco consumption in Europe from an exclusive colonial product to a mass-produced cigarette. Follow Dresden’s rise to become a central production and trading centre, as well as a leading location for special machine construction. Using the example of the cigarette industry, the new product advertising that emerged at the beginning of the 20th century and its strategies are also shown. But also the anti-tobacco movement found an early centre in Dresden. Thus, a look at the social negotiation processes takes the subject right up to our present day.
