Moving sounds - European Summer Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir

At a glance

The Sächsische Mozart-Gesellschaft e.V. will invite enthusiastic singers and instrumentalists from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Ukraine and Austria to a special tango concert given by the European Summer Philharmonic and Choir on July 8, 2025. In the Capital of Culture year, they will come together to honour the city of Chemnitz as the birthplace of the bandoneon. Carl Friedrich Uhlig’s invention of the concertina in Chemnitz in 1834 marked the beginning of the bandoneon’s triumphant rise as the typical instrument of the Argentine tango. The amateurs and professionals will be guided by the octet of the Gran Orquesta Carambolage, led by tango legend Jürgen Karthe, which has a unique line-up of ten bandoneons among its members alone. This bandoneon section is the orchestra’s centrepiece and gives the tango its soul. The concert will be performed again the following day in Chomutov in the Czech Republic.
