Landscapes from close up. Max Schneider and Albert Schwarz

At a glance

exhibition from regional artists

Works by the porcelain painter Albert Schwarz (1895 Oberhohndorf-1977 Zwickau) who was born in Zwickau and Max Schneider (1903 Oelsnitz i. Vogtl. -1980 Bad Elster) who worked in the Vogtland carpet weaving industry. Both artists did not graduate from an art academy, but were trained in industries that are growing in the region, such as porcelain and textile production. This solid training in the arts and crafts became the basis for his later freelance work. The motifs of both artists revolve around their native landscape, which they depicted mainly with the technique of watercolour. Watercolour painting is quick to execute and requires great skill, as corrections are hardly possible any more. The exhibition shows impressions of the Saxon and Vogtland landscape with its forests, fields and rolling hills, but also, especially in the work of Albert Schwarz, the nature changed by mining and industrialisation.
